Advice

My goal when starting this blog was to blog often.  I am not living up to that.  I find it so hard to write posts with 2 BUSY little boys.  How do you ladies blog so often with little kids?  I would love to be able to balance it all!

Onto another topic, I just won an autographed copy of Snow Day by Lester Laminack from Kathy over at First Grade a la Carte!   I absolutely LOVE her blog.  Kathy is so creative!  Thanks again Kathy for the opportunity to win this!

Another post... breaking the rules

I wanted to thank Jenn from A Pirate's Life for Us! for giving me an award awhile ago. I am sorry that I didn't post about it earlier, but for some reason Blogger thought I was spamming and locked my account!  Luckily, I got my blog back.

Here are the rules:
The rules are...

1. Thank the person(s) who presented the award to you and link back to them.
2. Tell seven things about yourself.
3. Pass this on to 15 newly discovered blogs and let them know they've received the award.

7 things about little ol' me:
1.  This is my 8th year of teaching.  6 of those years have been in first grade!
2.  I have an amazing, patient, and understanding husband.  :)
3.  I have 2 sons:  Jaxon, 6 and Quinn, 11 months
4.  I love thrift stores.
5.  My favorite color is yellow.
6.  My lucky number is 4.
7.  I played piano for 10 years.

Since this award was awhile ago and I don't know of many new blogs, I will skip this part.  SORRY!

Groundhog Day

This past summer my family decided to take a trip to Punxsutawney, PA to see Phil.  I live about an hour or so away.  In the town, there are 32 "Phantastic Phil" statues to see.  Here is the statue right by Phil's home at the publc library.  Sorry it is sideways.

My son's favorite statue was the McDonald's Groundhog.  It's holding french fries.

We went to the gift shop and I went wild! I bought shirts, coloring books, stamper, stickers, pencils, etc...  I even bought this cute little Phil cookie cutter with Spicy Groundhog Cookie recipe.  I also got a blank Phil template for my students to create their own statue which I did this year.  They turned out great, but I forgot to take pictures.  I am so forgetful!

At our school, the high school home economics class make the goundhog cookies for first grade.  Then we make Goundhog sundaes!  I cannot believe I forgot to take a picture of them!  We put the goundhog cookie into a little cup of vanilla ice cream. Then, if a student wants his/her groundhog to have a shadow, we squirt chocolate syrup on the ice cream!   The kids LOVED these!

Back to my summer trip.  After the gift shop, we headed up to Gobbler's Knob.  My son loved to be on stage pretending to be a member of the Inner Circle.  He even peeked into Phil's burrow.

It was nice to show students my actual pictures to make it more real for them!  I want to go back this summer and get to the other statues we didn't get to this past summer.
